Hippos of St Lucia

There are more than just hippos in the St Lucia wetlands – try crocs, for instance. Between them, the hippos and the crocs make swimming a little … unhygienic, shall we say. In any case, not good for your health.

Rob and I visited in 2012, and though we saw more than a few crocs it was the hippos that proved more photogenic, and more cooperative. Which is lucky, because they can be pretty badass characters.

Our friends Lisa and Klaus, who visited South Africa for the first time in 2018, and have decided to return this year for a second visit, have put a trip to St Lucia on their bucket list – in fact, have already booked accommodation and flights. So Rob will return to St Lucia with the two of them, later this year, in the guise of tour guide and local expert.

Here are some photos of the hippos of St Lucia, to whet their appetites – and hopefully yours too.
