I will not tell you what the rude son of our hosts – he was not with us in France, but his dad related the story with much relish – called the tiny hamlet of La Fon del Mas, which you pass through on the way down the hill from the Thompson’s house, below, into the village of Plaisance.

Suffice to say it was a very English play on the innocent and unassuming hamlet’s name….

Just a way further, a field and a gate…and then, as you come up to the village itself, glimpses of the lovely 12th century Eglise Romane Saint Martin, high on the hill.
